Sealants
Brushing and flossing does a great job to remove plaque and food from the smooth surfaces of the teeth. However the chewing surfaces of the teeth have deep grooves that catch plaque and are very difficult to clean. Sealants fill these grooves so that cavities cannot form.
A sealant is a plastic material that is applied to the chewing surface of the molars. This material protects the grooves in teeth from cavities caused by plaque and acids. They are applied in just a few minutes by painting on a special material that sticks to the tooth and are very effective.
We recommend sealants for both adults and children at our Hillsborough New Jersey dental office to help prevent cavities.
